Methodology

This page covers the mechanics: how a place gets researched, where the map and photo data actually come from, and how often any of it gets re-checked. For the separate question of why a place is or isn't included, see the editorial policy.

How a place gets researched

Each entry is built from recent reviews, specialty-world platforms (coffee-specific, natural-wine-specific, and so on), the place's own site and menu, and its social channels — cross-checked against each other, not taken from a single source. A field that can't be sourced is left out rather than guessed; a missing detail is more honest than an invented one.

How and when information is checked

The dataset behind this guide gets re-verified in deliberate passes — a real re-checking effort covering the whole guide or a whole world at once — rather than edited piecemeal whenever something happens to be noticed. The Last checked: August 2026 marker shown across the site reflects the most recent of those passes, not a per-edit timestamp.

Where the map and photo data come from

District boundaries are Amsterdam's real municipal stadsdeel polygons, not hand-drawn approximations — a venue's neighbourhood label comes from an actual point-in-polygon check against its coordinates. Photos are sourced through the Google Places API and carry the contributor attribution Google's terms require, shown on each place's own page. Distances (for guides like the ones sorted by how close or far a place is from Centraal) are calculated directly from coordinates, not estimated.

What this site doesn't do

No description, quote, or statistic is generated or invented to fill a gap. No structured data on this site claims something the visible page doesn't already say — the schema.org markup used throughout (Organization, Article, BreadcrumbList, ItemList, CafeOrCoffeeShop, FAQPage) formalizes facts already written in plain text, it doesn't add new ones. There's no special markup that makes an unsourced claim trustworthy to a search or AI system — only sourcing the claim in the first place does that.
